For practical reasons (e.g. cost and time), a service between dissertation proofreading and dissertation editing combines the two (dissertation proof-editing services) in one stage of work only. This takes aspects of each but is not fully either service so it's not ideal and issues can arise (e.g. text inserted afterwards by the client is often not proofread, though you can request this subsequent stage). Dissertation proofreading is the final stage of dissertation writing as it involves only checks for errors and mistakes. Detailed development of your dissertation therefore occurs before this stage. Often, clients who approach me for 'proofreading' subsequently request more detailed work before any final proofreading stage. Nevertheless, 'proofreading' remains a commonly used term.
